Perimenopause and Menopause

Menopause is the end of ovulation and menstruation. Perimenopause is the period of hormonal changes that occur leading up to menopause. This can happen naturally with aging or surgically by removal of the ovaries and uterus. Symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are due to drastic changes in hormone levels and balance.

Symptoms of perimenopause and menopause can be very disruptive to a women's quality of life and can include:

  • Hot flashes/ night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Mood changes
  • Low libido/sexual interest
  • Sleep disruptions
  • Increased incidence of vaginal infections and UTI’s
  • Bone loss

  • Memory changes

The decline of hormones with advanced aging is considered normal.
